Oferty PreDoc i PostDoc na uniwersytecie BOKU w Wiedniu

Zamieszczony przez: Justi w: Doktorat

Pre-doctoral research fellow, bioinformatics – International PhD Programme
Boku University Vienna

Understanding the regulation of gene activity is key to learning about or controlling biological processes. With the increasing availability of genome scale profiling technologies, it is the interpretation of the resulting high-dimensional data sets that has become a major bottle-neck. Computational methods need to be developed and validated that can take advantage of complementary data sources and a context of existing knowledge.

In this context, we can offer two pre-doctoral fellowships in Bioinformatics as part of an international PhD programme at the interface of basic science and applications in the fields of protein biotechnology.

We invite applications from highly motivated, outstanding students.
While travel is not necessary, we have active collaborations with Cambridge, and encourage exchange with our partners. Vienna is a thriving international city with a vibrant scientific environment and excellent quality of life.
We offer internationally competitive conditions and benefits.
You will have a university degree in a technical or scientific discipline at the M. Sc. level or equivalent. Research in this field requires good statistical and software engineering skills. Candidates must hence be able to demonstrate previous coding experience (e. g., in R, C/C++ or Java, Perl or Python, Bash, ). The projects involve complex data sets and experience with bioinformatics data analysis is an advantage.
The interdisciplinary nature of the group`s work means that good communication skills in English are essential. (Working knowledge of German is a plus.)

Additional information and requirements for project:

Joint modelling of gene expression patterns and regulatory potential of genome sequence regions for sensitive process identification

can be seen under  http://bioinf.boku.ac.at/job21.php

To submit an application, please follow the instructions on the programme pages, http://biotop.boku.ac.at/. The programme secretary will be happy to assist you with any questions about formal requirements and the application process (biotop@boku.ac.at)

Post-doctoral research fellow, bioinformatics 3yrs+
Boku University Vienna

We need an outstanding scientist excited about integrated approaches for the analysis of heterogeneous data (expression profiles, phosphorylation proteomics, sequence analysis results, and various heterogeneous databases). Experimental data are generated by experienced colleagues in house.

Our group focusses on the challenge of extracting structured insight from genome-scale experiments. Besides working with colleagues in the group, established and novel analysis tools will be applied to the study of host-parasite interactions (biocontrol project, http://bioinf.boku.ac.at/biogen.php).

While travel is not necessary, we have active collaborations with Cambridge, and encourage exchange with our partners. Vienna is a thriving international city with a vibrant scientific environment and excellent quality of life.
We offer internationally competitive conditions and benefits. The position is available immediately and has an initial tenure of three years.
You need a PhD in a technical or scientific field and must have experience in at least one of these three areas:

  1. Classical or probabilistic analysis of DNA or protein sequences,
  2. Integration of bioinformatics databases and analysis tools,
  3. Analysis / interpretation of microarray data.

You will be responsible for the development of novel integrated approaches in the deep bioinformatics analysis of heterogeneous data sets, applying and adapting existing systems as well as developing novel components as needed. Solid skills and experience in software development under Unix (e.g., Matlab or R, C/C++ or Java, Perl or Python, Bash … ) are therefore required.
An interest in interdisciplinary work and excellent communication skills in English are essential. (Working knowledge of German is a plus).

We look forward to receiving your application. Applications will be considered until the position has been filled and should be addressed to David Kreil. Please include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and the names of three referees, who should be asked to send references to us directly. Feel free to please contact us if you have any questions.
